Gate to Heavens under Linux

Version tested: Ubuntu 8.10+9.04, WINE emulator
Performance: Good, some textures do not load properly! Not anymore with the latest version of WINE!
Advantages: Fullscreen blockable.....and all the advantages you have using an emulator
Disadvantages: Some texture problems(latest version of WINE solves most of these problems), brightness of screen increases (scroll to bottom to see how to solve it)
Installation:
(NOTE: If you have already installed WINE or a similar Windows emulator, you can skip steps 1.) and 2.) )
1.)Run „Synaptic Package Manager“ (System → Administration → Synaptic Package Manager)
2.)Press „Reload“ if you haven‘t done so yet. Click on „Search“ Button and enter „Wine“
Now mark the following hits:
„wine“,“wine-dev“ and „Wine-gecko“
Right-click on them and choose „Mark for Installation“
Click on „Apply“-Button and let the Installation run. Under „Applications“ in the upper left corner of your monitor there should be an entry named „Wine“ now. Click on „Configure Wine“ and ensure that the Windows version used is „Windows XP“.
3.)
Right-click on the Gth-Installer and select „Open with Wine Windows program loader“ (or the emulator that you have installed). The Setup will now Guide you through the Installation.
NOTE: The Setup will ask you for the path to use for the installation and proposes C:/program files/Gate to Heavens.
Use it, as it is the virtual WINE drive for all Windows programs. Do not use any other path if possible.
4.)Now there should be the Gth-Icon under „Applications → Wine → program files“
Click it to run GTH.
NOTE: Under „Configure Wine“ you can toggle the size of the virtual Desktop and other things which might be usefull to optimate the performance.
IMPORTANT: It might be possible that GTH makes your screen brighter and stays like that even after shutting the program down. There are 2 possibilities to solve that problem:
1.) Restart your system (also known as the famous „hacksaw method“), or
2.) Open the terminal ( Applications → Accessoirs → Terminal and type in the following command:
xgamma -gamma 1.0
It might not be the good as it was before, but you should be able to live with it untill your next restart...
